Plastic bags greatly affect our environment and especially the aquatic environment. What are the impacts? What can be done to improve the situation?
Plastic bags are added to the long list of plastic waste that, according to some experts, will outnumber fish in the ocean by 2050! Plastic bags therefore have disastrous effects on the environment, particularly the aquatic environment. They are responsible for the deaths of more than 260 different marine species. They are also potentially harmful to human health: the same fish that ingest plastic bags end up on our plates.
To avoid the negative effects of plastic bags on the environment, there are several solutions to solve the problem at the source:
- States may prohibit the distribution of single-use plastic bags in shops or charge single-use plastic bags.
- Reuse the bags to respect the environnement
- Recycle the plastic bags
